A 300' aerial view from the Doorknob Snowmobile Area parking lot south of Lava Beds National Monument, California. The area got completely wiped out from the Antelope Fire. The fire began from a lightning strike on August 1, 2021 south of Tennant, California & lasted to October 15, 2021, burning a total of 145,632 acres. It was one of many large-scale fires brought on by an ongoing drought to the region. It was nearly contained in September when abrupt extreme fire activity & winds broke fire lines & sent it northwards nearly 15 miles to Sheepy Ridge, nearly doubling it in size. I had taken a panorama from inside the warming hut in 2015 but did not take an outside shot, at the time it was almost all green w/ ponderosa & manzanita forests, now cleared away & wide open. The road is snowblocked past the warming hut - probably no snowmobiling here for awhile.
