View on monument to Petar I Petrovic Njegos in Podgorica. Petar I Petrovic (1747-1839) was ruler of Montenegro. He was spiritual and military leader. Petar strengthened the state by uniting the often quarreling tribes, consolidating his control over Montenegrin lands. He was canonised as Saint Peter of Cetinje by his successor Petar II Petrovic Njegos.
