Only abouta fifth of the New Forest is covered with trees. Most of it is heathland. One of the best sights are the large numbers of small, semi-wild New Forest ponies.

A rotting tree trunk in the New Forest with moss growing in the shady bark and a variety of inedible fungi including Black Bulgar and Dead Men's Fingers.
