The High Light Tower, now known as the Old Lighthouse, was completed in 1904. When owned by Trinity House it was painted with black and white hoops to be more visible to passing ships. It stands next to former lighthouse keeper cottages. The adjacent Roundhouse once had a 35m tower on top of it which served as a lighthouse for more than a century.
Dungeness is a large headland jutting out into the English Channel from the Kent coast. The unique landscape of low-lying shingle is classified as a desert and is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. As if that wasn't surreal enough the area is peppered with dozens of small dwellings, lighthouses and a nuclear power station.
