Optical Telegraph
Sweden

This optical telegraph or semaphore is located near the National Museum of Science and Technology. It has 10 paddles that can be set to 1024 different combinations. A row of these formed a line and was used to convey messages over long distances in short time. The last optical telegraph line in Sweden was taken out of operation in 1881.
