To celebrate the first day of spring 2012, here is Plimmerton at mid-tide in the sunshine. A couple of seagulls wander on the sand. The building on the edge of the rocks is the fire station, manned by volunteers. Mana Island, a wildlife sanctuary, is just outside the bay, and beyond it on the horizon is a hazy view of the Marlborough Sounds across Cook Strait.
