Staudamm Marmorera 2
Grisons

The Marmorera dam, located in the municipality of Surses in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, was built between 1950 and 1954 by Zürcher Elektrizitätswerken, the Zurich electricity company, and was inaugurated on September 14, 1955. It is one of 33 reservoirs of the canton. The body of the dam, 91 meters high, harmoniously integrates into the surrounding landscape, is around 1.4 km long and up to 700 m wide. The reservoir is located between the villages of Mulegns and Bivio, on the Julier Pass road, at an altitude of 1,680 meters above sea level.

The village of Marmorera is located approximately in the middle of the lake, on the east side of Lake Marmorera. This was rebuilt in the 1960s, after the construction of the reservoir and the flooding of the old village.

The reservoir is extremely popular with divers, as the remains of ancient Marmorera can be explored. To get to Marmorerasee, by car, via the Julier Pass which runs alongside the lake. There are two bus stops at Lago da Marmorera: one in the village, Marmorera village, and one at the dam, Marmorera dam.
