The ruins of Dunfermline Palace, Fife
Scotland

Dunfermline Palace was built as a royal residence out of the guesthouse and west range of the adjacent 11th century abbey, following the Reformation. It was home to Queen Anna of Denmark, the wife of King James VI. It fell out of favour when they moved to London after he ascended to the throne of England in 1603.

It was also the birthplace of the future Charles I in 1600, the last monarch to be born in Scotland.
