Tintagel exploits the legends of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. It is the site of the mythical Camelot. In fact, this island fortress was a stronghold of Cornish Kings and, more recently a Christian monastery. The fit (and brave) climb 300 steps clinging to the rockface to the remains of the 13th Century Castle. The bleak looking building to the right of the island is a quirky Edwardian hotel called Camelot. Have a drink there and take a look round the incredible Arthurian public rooms - there's even a Round Table!
