This is the central square of the Estate "K" (called "Karolina"), built in 1976 and awarded by the Minister of Construction in 1979.
Such a central square, called commonly "the little market square" by the inhabitants, was developed here in order to avoid problems, which took place by building another estates of "New Tychy". In those estates there were delays in implementation of service facilities, so it caused many difficulties for residents. But in the Estate "K" the service facilities, located in the ground floor of buildings forming frontages of the central square, were built at the same time as the residential buildings.
In addition, there are also a lot of street furniture (differing levels, walls, benches, stairs), so the square constitutes a welcoming space for relaxation and integration of residents. Its landmark is also a fountain with a sculpture of a Silesian women - Karolinka, the heroine of a popular regional song, chiselled by Augustyn Dyrda (renovated in 2011).
The inhabitants of Tychy quickly liked this "little market square" and it became popular with them.
