Just as you cross the Arctic Circle on the E6 road in Norway is the Arctic Circle Centre, where you can stop to buy a souvenir or even get your passport stamped. At an elevation of over 600 metres above sea level the area often keeps its Arctic look all year round. This image was taken in late May and at the time there were still snow patches at 50 metres above sea level.
The arctic circle marks the southern boundry of the summer midnight sun, and in mid winter the sun will only just rise onto the southern horizon at noon.
