In 2005, the memorial "Tragedy of the Sea" was inaugurated on Matosinhos beach, a sculpture in honor of the 1947 shipwreck, about three meters high, composed of five figures of orphans and widows whose faces show the tragedy that occurred in 1947. It was sculpted by José João Brito who based himself on the canvas of the same name created by Mestre Augusto Gomes
