The Monte Moro Pass is an alpine pass located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It connects Saas-Almagell in the Swiss canton of Valais with Staffa, Macugnaga in the Italian region of Piedmont. Historically, Monte Moro was an important border crossing between the Saas and Anzasca valleys. It is one of the highest passes on the Monte Rosa Tour.

Starting on the Swiss side, the trail begins at the Mattmark dam and continues up to the Monte Moro Pass, 2853 m, which also marks the border with Italy. Here we find an impressive golden statue of Mary, also known as Madonna della Nevi, watching over and blessing the pass.

From Mattmark in the Saas Valley, Switzerland, follow the path along the right side of the lake, heading south and over the Monte Moro Pass to Distelalp, at the end of the lake. From Distelalp, the historic trail to the Monte Moro Pass begins. A gently ascending hiking trail to reach Tälliboden. Some of this trail is part of the famous Monte Rosa Tour.

From Tälliboden, 2,492m, the somewhat treacherous path climbs over the rocks along the original Walser path. After rocky steps and just before the top of the pass, you reach a depression almost entirely covered in solid snow. After crossing the snow you reach rocky terrain again, and finally reach the pass that offers you a breathtaking view of the majestic east face of Monte Rosa, the Joderhorn and the Madonnina perched on a rocky spur that is the symbol of the pass. The view directly in front of the statue of the Madonna is incredible. This is where the Monte Rosa Tour takes place.

This mountain pass has been frequently used by smugglers in the past. On the Italian side there is also the Oberto Maroli restaurant and the cable car station that connects Monte Moro to Staffa, Macugnaga, if you want to continue towards Italy. Or you can return along the same trail towards Switzerland. It is an unforgettable trail and one to repeat, with the months of July and August being the most recommended.

O Passo Monte Moro é um passe alpino localizado na fronteira entre a Suíça e a Itália. Liga Saas-Almagell, no cantão suíço de Valais, a Staffa, Macugnaga, na região italiana de Piemonte. Historicamente, Monte Moro é uma importante passagem fronteiriça entre os vales de Saas e Anzasca. É um dos passos mais altos do Tour Monte Rosa.

Iniciando na parte suíça, o trilho começa na barragem de Mattmark e segue até ao Passo do Monte Moro, 2853 m que marca também a fronteira com Itália. Aqui encontramos uma impressionante Estátua Dourada de Maria, também conhecida por, Madonna dela Nevi, vigiando e abençoando o pass.

A partir de Mattmark em Vale de Saas, Suíça siga o caminho pelo lado direito do lago, em direção a sul e a Monte Moro Pass até Distelalp, no final do lago. A partir de Distelalp começa o trilho histórico até ao Passo do Monte Moro. Um trilho de caminhada suavemente ascendente para chegar a Tälliboden. Algum deste trilho faz parte do famoso trilho do Tour Monte Rosa.

A partir de Tälliboden, 2.492m, o caminho algo traiçoeiro, sobe pelas rochas através do caminho Walser original, depois dos degraus rochosos e pouco antes do cume do desfiladeiro, chega-se a uma depressão quase toda coberta de neve firme. Depois de atravessar a neve chega novamente a terreno rochoso, para enfim, chegar ao desfiladeiro que lhe vai oferecer uma vista deslumbrante da majestosa face leste do Monte Rosa, do Joderhorn e da Madonnina colocada sobre um esporão rochoso que é o símbolo do passe. A vista diretamente em frente à estátua da Madonna é inacreditável. É aqui que passa o Tour Monte Rosa.

Esta passagem na montanha foi frequentemente utilizada pelos contrabandistas no passado. Do lado italiano existe também o restaurante Oberto Maroli e a estação do teleférico que liga Monte Moro a Staffa, Macugnaga, isto se quiser continuar em direção a Itália. Ou, então, voltar para trás pelo mesmo trilho em direção à Suíça. É um trilho inesquecível e para repetir, sendo os meses de julho e agosto os mais indicados.
