Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company's chemical plant is located on the west shore of Owens Dry Lake. After Los Angeles diverted water from the Owens valley, exposing minerals on the Owens sink, PPG built a plant to crystallize and processing carbonate compounds mined from the dry lake bed.
