Praça do Infante D. Henrique occupied a sloping terrain that was part of the fence of the old Convento de S.Domingos since the 13th century. In the 19th century, it was acquired by the Porto Commercial Association, which intended to give a dignified aspect to the space in front of its headquarters. However, after some time, he handed it over to the municipality in order to be given an arrangement. As the streets of Ferreira Borges and Infante already existed, with the opening of Rua do Mouzinho da Silveira around 1875, the Square took on the configuration that it still has today. Its requalification as a public garden with a tropical ambience took place in 1892.
