「竹子湖」一個充滿著濃濃鄉土，又帶有詩情畫意的地方，位居大屯山、七星山與小觀音山之間的谷地，早年曾經是火山爆發後所形成的天然堰塞湖，在湖水退去後，留下肥沃優質的土壤，形成一處典型的農村聚落。然而其過去栽植大片箭竹及孟宗竹，每當風起時，大片竹林隨風起舞似湖面波浪而得名，至今仍可由四周山坡上竹林略見一二。
