Located in the parish of Doniños, in Ferrol (province of A Coruña, NW of Spain), right at the entrance of the Ría de Ferrol, it had one of the many coastal batteries that defended the entrance of the estuary, to protect the naval base. The battery found here, from where the photograph is taken, is dated 1799, and was active until the beginning of the 19th century. The lighthouse, in service since 1850, is located at a height of 36 m above sea level, from where it rises 5 m, and has a range of 23 nautical miles.
