Castle Stalker at low tide, Argyll
Scotland

Castle Stalker stands sentinel on a small tidal islet at the mouth of Loch Laich in Argyll. The 14th century tower house takes its name from the Gaelic 'Stalcaire', which translates as 'hunter' or 'falconer', as the site was often used by Scottish royalty as a base for hunting trips in the surrounding countryside.

Ownership of the castle has passed between the Campbell and Stewart Clans on a number of occasions over the centuries. During the Jacobite uprising of 1745, when in Government hands, it resisted a siege by a strong force of Stewarts who were unable to take it. It was subsequently used as both a prison and a place for defeated clan warriors to hand in their weapons.

More recently it was the setting for scenes in the films, 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' and 'Highlander: Endgame'.
