慈航法師出生於福建，17歲毅然出家皈依佛門，曾禮佛、弘法東南亞各國，直到54歲才來到臺灣，主持臺灣佛學院，55歲進駐汐止靜修禪寺傳經說法，60歲坐缸圓寂，5年後開缸後發現慈航法師肉身保持完整，乃貼上金箔塑成慈航菩薩，至今金身仍放置靜修禪寺慈航堂內，供信眾瞻仰膜拜，就連當年圓寂時的坐缸亦放置在此，供民眾參觀。
