Battle Bonfire is the oldest in the country, the celebration of the prevention of The Gunpowder Plot succeeding in blowing up the Houses of Parliament beginning in 1646. The head of the effigy of Guy Fawkes was created in 1795 and is till in use to this day. The body was burnt originally but the current one in use was made in the 1950's.
The effigy is paraded in a tumbril accompanied by the costumed members of The Battle Bonfire Boyes. Huge effigies of the 'enemies of Bonfire' (often satirical) are blown up annually!
