La Misericordia, the garden with the big ficus, Palma de Mallorca
Mallorca

La Misericordia is a huge building placed on a little hill where is joined to La Sang hospital and oratory, both next to the popular La Rambla with its floristeries. The massive building with a great yard indoors and some gardens in the surroundings was in the origin an orphanage built between 1817 and 1878 on the same point where an old graveyard was placed. Nowadays it has a couple of libraries, exhibition halls and it's at the same time a cultural office of the Consell of Mallorca, but in general the incredible spaces and rooms are not useful at all.

In the image you can feel the powerful shadow of the incredible ficus planted in 1830 in this garden in the same enclosure of buildings. It has got 26 meters high and 33 meters diameter, but it's growing yet year after year, that's why it's the largest tree in Palma. The great walls of La Misericordia with the rectangle windows are just to its side and the steep street on the panoramic is conducting to the main entrances to La Sang and La Misericordia.

At one side, half hidden, you can see the main front of Santa Magdalena convent, rebuilt as we can see now on the year 1740 in late baroque style, it keeps indoors the body relics of Saint Catalina Thomas.
