南海紫竹寺建於1967年，1976年竣工，歷時十年，屬於道教，奉祀主神為觀世音菩薩，供奉妙公莊主、土地公，佔地5.32公頃。該寺位於內門區中心位置，地理上為一「浮水蓮花」之地形，環境絕佳。寺後林蔭蔽日，輕風徐來，亭台樓榭，花木扶疏。南海紫竹寺管理委員會推動民俗江陣古老文化的傳承不遺餘力，與內門紫竹寺所辦理之高雄內門宋江陣嘉年華會，榮膺交通部觀光局所推選的國內十二大具地方特色重要節慶活動之一，也被譽為世界級的國寶藝技。
