近溪谷環境較為潮濕，蕨類與著生植物特別發達，短短數百公尺的步道兩旁，就有將近65種的蕨類，較具代表性的蕨類植物有垂枝馬尾杉、山蘇花、筆筒樹等等。攀爬在樹上的稀有蕨類―藤蕨，對生長環境非常地挑剔，必須是非常成熟的低海拔闊葉林森林才能發現它的蹤跡。由此可以看出內洞國家森林遊樂區是屬於成熟型的森林，也因而造就獨特的生態環境。
