Olba Uguralani Silifke Vr Mersin 27a
Turkey
It is 4 km east of Uzuncaburç archeological site in Silifke District, Mersin. It was the capital city of Olba Kingdom and an important center of trade in the Hellenistic Period. Olba was also an important place for religious activities. Especially in the Christian era, this fact can be seen on the remains of religious architecture, apart from written sources. These remains include the ruins of the Grand Church located on the west of Olba acropolis, numerous churches located on the acropolis itself and what is left from the monastery that extended on a large area in the valley to the east of the acropolis. Apart from the fountain structure built during the rule of Septimus Severus, another important architectural work in Olba is the two-storey aqueduct erected in the valley where the necropolis was situated. Some rows of the antique theatre located next to fountain and a part of the stage have survived. There are different types of graves in the necropolis area. Other remains left from the antique city founded on top of the hill include several houses. The place was settled during the Hellenistic, Roman and early Byzantine Periods.
