新威森林公園面積共約26公頃，原為政府向六龜鄉公所承租的育苗中心。1997年，鄉公所將公園轉售茂林國家風景區處開發成為國家風景區。園內著名設施和景色包括延綿一千多公尺，種植了一千多棵以上桃花心木的桃花心木步道，寬敞步道落葉片片，浪漫靜謐。另有規劃連接結木棧道及觀景台供遊客眺望遠方，旁綴以原始植木，吸引愛好自然及攝影者駐足。
