The cave of the Well of the Devil, which happens to be currently the only example of volcanic cavity of the Lazio region, where the volcanic phenomenon involved in earlier times a good portion of the territory.
The cave is located inside the Natural Reserve of Lake Vico, and its entrance opens near the top of the cone of Mount adventitious Venus at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level, the appearance is that of a small hole in the ground where a short jump leads to the first open-air environment covered with leaves and debris. The cavity appears as a large room of collapse inclined, whose floor is covered with many boulders and rough slabs, while the vault and the walls are smooth, made up of blocks of dark basalt with sharp edges. upstage one another short and narrow spaces between chaotic and unstable boulders fall, reaching a short track, which narrows and ends the cave. The general conditions of the environment denote a state of advanced senility, the original structure is hardly recognizable. The material of the collapse, the basalt blocks well preserved and the phenomenon of sedimentation in progress, are particular aspects that distinguish the volcanic caves. Recent studies and research done assumptions anticipate that the cave, inside the duct of the volcanic eruption of Mount Venus, have originated by contraction of the molten magma after its solidification. Previous excavations have established that the Cave of the Devil's Well was popular in the past, in fact, the different ceramic vases found along with other artifacts, let assume that the cave was used as a place of worship ancient Neolithic era.
