An aerial view of a nearby wild fire in a crop field near to Edwardstone, between Sudbury and Hadleigh in Suffolk. The dark column of smoke was visible for miles. Fire crews arrived quickly and managed to douse it, the roiling smoke turning white as the fire was extinguished.

The summer heat has been building steadily across the southern half of the UK, with fierce temperatures breaking records. Inevitably in weather like this, fires happen – whether by accident or deliberately – placing people and property at risk.
