On the southern outskirts of the city of Guangzhou lies a centuries-old village called Xiaozhou, near the University Town. It has become the new cultural center of Guangzhou. Originally built around the late Yuan (1271-1368) and early Ming (1368-1644) dynasties. Here, in the courtyard outside one of the very large and old family acadamies that had been renovated. Xiaozhou Village features classical Cantonese community landscapes by water, including canals, ancient buildings, bridges and local folkways. Artists, writers, photographers and college students live, work and visit the scenic Xiaozhou Village which is in the process of being renovated and refurbished. Lying in Yingzhou Ecological Park(瀛洲生态园), Haizhu District of Guangzhou. It’s been named as the most beautiful village in Guangzhou because of it’s special water village environment and unsophisticated folkways. Villagers there are the descendant of Tanka people(蜑家). Tanka people also called “the Boat people”, a special group of people that has traditionally lived on boats in coastal parts of south China.
