永安鹽田溼地面積約130公頃，1908年曾闢為曬鹽之用，舊稱烏樹林鹽場，1984年由臺灣電力公司購得並計畫闢建灰塘以貯存飛灰，但因鹽民補償問題而延宕，促使原屬低漥感潮帶之荒廢鹽田逐漸孕育出豐富的紅樹林與水鳥生態，包含樹齡百年以上的海茄苳及遊隼、東方環頸鴴、高蹺鴴等鳥類達110種以上，1997年內政部營建署指定為地方級國家重要濕地之一。
