The building was constructed in 1954, with YaoZhan,the then chair of the Department of Civil Engineering of Yunnan University as its designer.

The building is a combination of three separate buildings that are joined together by two overpasses. The stately yet graceful style of the building makes it a landmark of Yunnan University.
