中山公園原址為日據時代神社，入口處仍保留當時遺跡-石獅一對，公園旁邊緊鄰當地信仰中心-壽天宮，加上鄰近的體育館、圖書館，以及國立岡山高中的寧靜校舍等設置，為中山公園增添了不少人文及學術氣質，而悠閒的環境與寧靜的氣氛，也是岡山當地居民休閒活動的場所。目前市府已計劃階段性整建中山公園，將使中山公園煥然一新，繼續為當地居民提供良好的綠色休憩環境。
